Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity Closes Chapter at University of Alaska Anchorage

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA July 30, 2018 – Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity is disappointed to announce the closure of the Alaska Alpha Kappa Chapter at The University of Alaska Anchorage, effective immediately.

The unanimous decision to suspend the Alaska Alpha Kappa chapter came from the Fraternity Board in April and resulted in the revocation of the charter, finalized this summer. The Executive Offices and University staff witnessed the group descending into dwindling membership over the last two academic years. There was a continued lack of presence and recruitment on the host campus. The chapter neglected to communicate ongoing conflicts and hardships to the Executive Office and did not take advantage of resources made known to them from University officials. The Alaska Alpha Kappa chapter was chartered in 2015 and was the first chapter in Alaska, as well as the first chartered chapter of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity outside of the contiguous United States. The chapter’s charter will remain suspended and in the care of the Board of Trustees.
